How do I become a Licensed Professional Counselor?
To become a licensed professional counselor you must first become a Licensed Professional Counselor Intern (LPC-I). As an intern you will need to complete 1350 client contact hours and 150 supervision hours within a two year period.

After review and approval of your past educational experience by the South Carolina Board of Examiners for Licensed Professional Counselors and achieving a passing score on the National Counselor Examination or the National Clinical Mental Health Counselor Examination. Who can become a Licensed Professional Counselor?
If you have completed a 48 hour master’s degree or higher in counseling or in a related discipline and your transcript shows that have completed the required coursework along with the completion of a 150 hour counseling practicum, and a 600 hour internship which dealt with the assessment and treatment of the more serious problems, then you are ready to take the step to become a licensed professional counselor intern.
